Section 52:17B-172 - Advisory council to Juvenile Justice Commissiona. The advisory council to the Juvenile Justice Commission shall consist of the following members:(1) The Commissioner of the Department of Labor and Workforce Development, the Commissioner of the Department of Health and Senior Services, the Commissioner of the Department of Community Affairs, the Chairperson of the Civil Service Commission, the Public Defender and a county prosecutor selected by and serving at the pleasure of the Governor or a person designated by one of the forenamed officers to serve in that officer's place;(2) Nine members who shall be selected for their knowledge, competence, experience or interest in the juvenile justice system. Appointments shall be made as follows: three by the President of the Senate, no more than two of whom shall be of the same political party; three by the Speaker of the General Assembly, no more than two of whom shall be of the same political party and three by the Governor, no more than two of whom shall be of the same political party.b. The term of office of each public member of the advisory council shall be three years; except that of the first members appointed, one appointed by the Governor, one by the President of the Senate and one by the Speaker of the General Assembly shall be appointed for a term of one year, one appointed by the Governor, one by the President of the Senate and one by the Speaker of the General Assembly shall be appointed for a term of two years and the remaining three members shall be appointed for a term of three years. Each member shall serve until a successor has been appointed and qualified, and vacancies shall be filled in the same manner as the original appointments for the remainder of the unexpired term. A member is eligible for reappointment to the council.c. The Governor shall appoint the chair of the advisory council from among the members of the council. The chair shall serve at the pleasure of the Governor during the Governor's term of office and until the appointment and qualification of the chair's successor. The members of the council shall elect a vice-chair from among the members of the council.d.
