Section 11A:6-11.1 - Certain State employees permitted leave of absence to participate in certain disaster relief services

Upon the request of the American Red Cross for the service of a State employee who is a certified disaster service volunteer of the American Red Cross, and upon the approval of that employee's appointing authority, a leave of absence with pay for no more than 10 work days in each year and an additional leave of absence without pay for no more than 10 work days in each year shall be given to the employee to participate in specialized disaster relief services for the American Red Cross if:

a. the disaster relief services are to be performed in the State;
b. the disaster is a federal or presidentially declared disaster designated as Level III or above, according to American National Red Cross regulations and procedures; or
c. the disaster is declared by the governor of a state or territory. The appointing authority shall compensate an employee granted leave with pay under this section at the regular rate of pay for those regular work hours during which the employee is absent from work.
