When the business of the superior court or circuit court requires it, and upon request of the chief justice of the superior court or the administrative judge of the circuit court, the chief or senior associate justice of the supreme court may, if not inconsistent with the proper advancement of the business of the supreme court, assign himself or herself or some other justice of the supreme court to preside and serve in the superior court or circuit court. While thus presiding and serving, such supreme court justice shall have all the authority of a superior court justice or circuit court judge.
