N.H. Rev. Stat. § 491-B:1

The chief justice of the supreme court, in consultation with the chief justice of the superior court and the administrative judge of the circuit court, shall appoint at least 3 magistrates, subject to appropriation by the legislature. Such magistrates shall serve at such locations as the chief justice of the supreme court may determine under this chapter. Magistrates shall be judicial branch employees.
