Section 81-4-501 - DefinitionsUnless the context requires otherwise, in this part the following definitions apply:
(1) "Abandoned horse" means a horse, mare, gelding, filly, jack, mule, or other animal of the genus Equus, 1 year of age or over and unbranded or, if branded, which has escaped assessment for taxation for the year immediately preceding its impounding as provided for in this part, and running at large on the open range of this state, including foals running with dams coming within the above definition. An animal not bearing a decipherable brand which is recorded with the department of livestock is considered unbranded.(2) "Open range" means all lands in this state not enclosed by a fence. The term "open range" includes all highways outside of private enclosures and used by the public, whether the highways have been formally dedicated to the public or not.(3) "Person" includes individuals, associations, persons, and corporations.En.
