Except as provided in 53-2-211, it is unlawful for a person, body, association, firm, corporation, or other agency to solicit, disclose, receive, or make use of or to authorize, knowingly permit, participate in, or acquiesce in the use of lists or names for commercial or political purposes of any nature or for any purpose not directly connected with the administration of public assistance. However, the department may, to the extent permitted by federal law, disclose public assistance information to an agency of the state or to any other organization if the information is used solely for purposes directly connected with the administration of a program or purpose of the agency.
