Section 388.1868 - North American Indian tuition waiver costs; report; information to be provided by public university; consolidated report(1) For the fiscal year ending September 30, 2024, it is the intent of the legislature that funds be allocated for unfunded North American Indian tuition waiver costs incurred by public universities under 1976 PA 174, MCL 390.1251 to 390.1253, from the general fund.(2) By January 15 of each year, the department of civil rights shall annually submit to the state budget director, the house and senate appropriations subcommittees on higher education, and the house and senate fiscal agencies a report on North American Indian tuition waivers for the preceding academic year that includes, but is not limited to, all of the following information: (a) The number of waiver applications received and the number of waiver applications approved.(b) For each public university submitting information under subsection (3), all of the following: (i) The number of graduate and undergraduate North American Indian students enrolled each term for the previous academic year.(ii) The number of North American Indian waivers granted each term, including to continuing education students, and the monetary value of the waivers for the previous academic year.(iii) The number of North American Indian students who receive a granted waiver for the previous academic year.(iv) The number of graduate and undergraduate students attending under a North American Indian tuition waiver who withdrew from the public university each term during the previous academic year.
