Section 25:1021 - Declaration of purposeA.(1) The Legislature of Louisiana hereby recognizes that October 12, 1992, marks the five hundredth anniversary of the voyages of discovery of Christopher Columbus and that all persons in this state should look with pride on the achievements and contributions of this courageous man.(2) The legislature further recognizes that as the United States approaches the quincentenary of the voyages of discovery of Christopher Columbus, it is appropriate to celebrate and commemorate this anniversary through local and statewide observances and activities planned, encouraged, coordinated, and conducted by a commission representative of appropriate persons and public and private authorities and organizations.B. The legislature declares, therefore, that it is the purpose of this Chapter to create the Louisiana Quincentenary Commission to promote and coordinate activities to commemorate the quincentennial of the voyages of Christopher Columbus.
