Section 18:24 - Powers and duties; authority to intervene in actionsA. To accomplish the purposes of this Part and Subpart G of Part V of Chapter 5 of this Title, the board shall have the following powers, duties, and functions:(1) To adopt, amend, and repeal such rules and regulations as are necessary for the transaction of its business and to implement the provisions of this Part and Subpart G of Part V of Chapter 5 of this Title.(2) To conduct hearings as provided in this Part and Subpart G of Part V of Chapter 5 of this Title.(3) To review election laws and procedures and to report to the legislature as required by this Part.(4) To employ an executive director, legal counsel, and such other personnel as the board deems necessary and appropriate.(5) To exercise such other powers and duties as are necessary to effectuate the purposes of the board as set forth in this Part and not inconsistent with such provisions.(6) To conduct appeals of merit evaluations of registrars of voters as provided in R.S. 18:55.B. To accomplish the purposes of Subpart G of Part V of Chapter 5 of this Title, the board shall also have the power and authority to hold hearings, subpoena witnesses, administer oaths, require the production of books and records, and do all other things necessary to discharge its duties and responsibilities.Acts 1980, No. 681, §1, eff.
