Section 15:577 - Bureau of criminal identification and information; creation and organizationA. There is hereby created within the Department of Public Safety as a part of the office of state police, the Louisiana Bureau of Criminal Identification and Information. The bureau shall be administered by the deputy secretary who shall employ qualified commissioned officers of the state police to supervise the activities of the bureau under such terms and conditions as he may direct. The deputy secretary may appoint such other employees and employ such consultants as he deems necessary for the efficient operation of the bureau. The Louisiana Bureau of Criminal Identification and Information shall assume the functions, powers, and duties of the Bureau of Identification which prior to July 1, 1981 operated as a part of the office of state police.B. Within the bureau, the following sections are hereby established: (1) Criminal Records and Identification Section.(2) Field Services and Quality Assurance Section.(3) Latent Fingerprint Section. The bureau may establish such units within each section as are necessary to carry out the provisions of this Chapter.
C. All data processing and related communications needs of the bureau shall be provided by the Data Processing Center and other facilities of the Department of Public Safety unless otherwise agreed by the deputy secretary.Acts 1981, No. 449, §1, eff.
