Section 11:1302 - Creation and composition of board; powers; expenses of administrationA. The Louisiana State Police Retirement System Board is created and is composed of the following members: (1) The state treasurer or his designee.(2) The commissioner of administration or his designee.(3) The superintendent of the office of state police or his designee.(4) The president of the Louisiana State Troopers' Association.(5) The president of the Central State Troopers' Coalition.(6) A member of the House Committee on Retirement appointed by the speaker of the House of Representatives or the member's designee.(7) The chairman of the Senate Committee on Retirement or his designee.(8) One member of the system, who has credit for at least five years of service at the time of taking office, to be elected at large by a majority of votes cast by the active members of the system.(9) One member of the system, who is a retiree at the time of taking office, to be elected at large by a majority of votes cast by the retired members of the system.(10) One member of the system who has credit for at least five years of service at the time of taking office, or who is a retiree at the time of taking office, to be elected at large by a majority of votes cast by the active and retired members of the system.(11) One surviving spouse of a deceased member to be elected at large by a majority of votes cast by the active and retired members of the system.B. Elected members of the board shall serve terms of five years each. An active elected member shall be ineligible to continue as a member of the board after December thirty-first following the effective date of his retirement, except for the member elected at large by the active and retired members of the system. If a vacancy occurs in the office of an elected board member, the vacancy shall be filled for the unexpired term in accordance with rules and regulations promulgated by the board. The board shall adopt rules and regulations governing the election of the members of the board.C. The board has full and complete authority to manage and administer the fund; to authorize the retirement of any police employee who may be eligible to retire; to determine monthly pensions and retirement salaries to be paid under the provisions of this Chapter; and to incur whatever expenses may be necessary to properly administer the system and the fund.
