§ 253. Maintenance and operation; regulations; compromise of claims

Upon the completion of the whole or any part of the Irrigation System, the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority shall provide for its maintenance and operation, and shall make and award all necessary contracts and make the necessary bylaws, rules and regulations for patrolling and for the disposition and use of the water in the district; Provided, That the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority be, and it is hereby, authorized and empowered to compromise, whenever in its judgment it should be advisable, any claim not exceeding one thousand dollars ($1,000) that may be made for damages caused to any property or person through the negligence of employees of the Irrigation Service within the district in which the works of the Irrigation Service are situated after an investigation duly made by the Authority and an affirmative opinion rendered by the Secretary of Justice of Puerto Rico; Provided, That any claim paid in accordance with the authorization granted the Authority shall be paid from irrigation funds.
