§ 242. Requirements for connecting generators

(a) Any person who is going to make a provisional connection of a portable or fixed power generator to a subscriber normally supplied by the Authority’s system, may do so after the main switch that connects the subscriber to the Authority’s power system is opened or disconnected, in order to isolate the subscriber’s power system from the Authority’s power system.

(b) Except for co-generators approved by the Authority to operate connected in parallel to the Authority’s system, all other portable or fixed power generators which can be connected permanently to the subscriber’s power system, shall be connected through a switch known as a double-throw, or transfer switch, so that the subscriber’s power system is isolated from the Authority’s power system. The connection shall be made and certified by a licensed expert electrician, or by a licensed electrical engineer, pursuant to the Electrical Code of Puerto Rico and the manufacturer’s specifications.
