§ 2406. Examination, renewal and expiration of licenses

The Authority shall submit every pilot license applicant to a careful examination on his qualifications and no license shall be issued unless he meets the qualifications indicated in § 2404 of this title. No license shall be renewed to any person over sixty-five (65) years of age unless the applicant shows to the satisfaction of the Director that he is mentally and physically capable of carrying out the functions of a pilot without endangering himself or the marine trade and persons working therein. Every license shall automatically expire on the date in which the pilot reaches seventy (70) years of age. The persons who on the date of effectiveness of this act have a pilot license under Act No. 59 of April 30, 1928, may practice as pilots for the term of one (1) year from and after said date without submitting to an examination, provided they render the bond required under § 2405 of this title and who still have not reached the age of sixty-nine (69) years. These licenses and those which subsequently may be issued shall be renewed at their expiration for the term of five (5) years unless the person who has the license does not qualify because of his age to have same renewed or that the Director refuses the renewal for just cause. The Director shall not delegate the powers and functions herein conferred.
