§ 916. Indication of weight, measure, quantity or units

Every package shall bear on the outside, in a clear and conspicuous manner, the net weight, measure, quantity or units, as the case may be. Packages not subject to sale at the premises where packed shall also indicate the name and address of the packer or distributor and it shall be unlawful to use terms such as “approximately”, “when packed”, “when cut” or any other similar expression. The word weight, as used in this chapter, shall be understood to be net weight. Packages of less than one-half (½) ounce “avoirdupois” or less than half a fluid ounce or containing less than six (6) units which can be easily counted without need to open the package shall be exempt from the compliance as to statement of net contents. In case of cosmetics there shall also be exempt those packages which weigh less than one-quarter (¼) ounce “avoirdupois” or that contain less than one-eighth (⅛) of a fluid ounce.
