§ 187k. Special Fund for the Development of Cuartel Ballajá

(a) A Special Fund is hereby created in the Department of the Treasury, under the administration of the Commonwealth Historic Preservation Office, attached to the Office of the Governor, hereinafter “the Office.” This Special Fund shall be initially [started] by the sum of five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000), originating from the remainder[s] of Joint Resolution No. 12 of April 3, 1986. In addition, the appropriation[s] of funds that the Legislature may provide in the future, and any other monies donated, transferred or granted by federal, Commonwealth or municipal government bodies, or by private entities or persons, shall also be [included under] covered into this Fund.

The Director of the Office shall deposit these items into said Special Fund, and [will] use [them] for the purposes stated in this section.

(b) This Special Fund shall be administered and used by the Office to fulfill its mandate to coordinate the development, administration, and management of the “Ballajá Barracks” and the areas, public squares, and structures which are a part of the Ballajá compound.

(c) The Office is hereby authorized to accept, receive and dispose of any gift of money and assets, contributions, transfers and conveyances made to said body for the purposes of this section.

(d) The Office may [proceed to acquire] the acquisition, chargeable to the Special Fund, [of] the needed insurance policies when [it] receiv[ing] or acquir[ing] assets that require [some sort of] insurance to protect them, so that any loss may be recovered directly upon evidence of said policy, and cover the sums thus recovered into the Special Fund created hereby.
