For the purpose of this chapter:
(a) Medical emergencies.— Shall mean any medical condition manifested by acute or severe symptoms that could include severe pain, before which a lay person with average medicine and health knowledge may think that the lack of medical assistance could result in:
(1) A health risk for a person; Provided, That, in the cases of pregnant women, it means a woman’s health risk due to her pregnancy;
(2) deterioration of the body functions, and
(3) dysfunction of an organ or part of the body.
(b) 9-1-1 system.— Shall mean the fast response system to public safety emergency calls by dialing 9-1-1, created pursuant to §§ 1911 et seq. of Title 25, known as the “Act for Speedy Attention of Public Safety 9-1-1 Calls” or “9-1-1 Calls Act”.
