§ 3702. Definitions

For the purposes of this chapter, except where the context indicates otherwise, the following terms shall have the meaning stated below:

(1) Defibrillation. — Means the emergency treatment for the management of ventricular fibrillation or cardiac arrest.

(2) Automated external defibrillator. — Means the portable device used to electrically stimulate a fibrillating heart. It consist of a two (2) electrode mechanism that is directly applied on the person’s thorax, through which an electrical shock with special characteristics is delivered, and, if applied shortly after a cardiac arrest, it would be highly probable that it will restore the lost normal heart rhythm.

(3) Establishments. — Means those places whose administrators are public or private entities operating a facility through a contract with the government of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico or a municipality, which shall install automated external defibrillators, according to the capacity of the place for the flow of persons or their stay therein, including without being limited to the following:

(a) Ground, sea, or air transportation terminals with capacity for more than one thousand (1000) persons shall have a minimum of two (2) automated external defibrillators.

(b) Public stadiums or sports centers with capacity for more than one thousand (1000) persons shall have a minimum of one (1) automated external defibrillator.

(c) Public show and entertainment facilities with capacity for more than five hundred (500) persons shall have a minimum of one (1) automated external defibrillator.

(d) Conference, seminar rooms or trade shows of the government of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, its instrumentalities or municipalities with capacity for more than five hundred (500) persons shall have a minimum of one (1) automated external defibrillator.
