The execution of every sentence of a military court shall be ordered by the convening authority after being approved by it. It shall be at the discretion of the convening authority to confirm the totality of any sentence or only such part, amount or commuted form thereof as it sees fit. It shall, in like manner, at its discretion, suspend the total or partial execution thereof. In this latter case the person may be set free on parole or probation, pursuant to the regulations that to such effect the Adjutant General may promulgate.
