P.R. Laws tit. 25, § 380a
In addition to the death benefits previously mentioned in this chapter, when a Puerto Rico Police Officer dies in the line of duty within the jurisdiction of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and he/she has a mortgage on his/her main residence that has been executed with the only purpose of buying, crediting, or paying off the debt on said property, his/her widow/widower or dependent children, or in the event that the police officer dies without a surviving spouse or children, his/her parents or, in its default, his/her grandparents, may receive a payment of up to sixty thousand dollars ($60,000) to cover the payment of said mortgage. Said payment shall be made on behalf of the financial institution that holds said mortgage. Even if the mortgage of the main residence of the family unit, at the time of the death, is not in the name of the police officer fallen in the line of duty, the Police Superintendent shall grant this benefit.
It shall be the duty of the Police Superintendent to establish the regulations and forms needed for the implementation of this section.
