§ 341. Definitions

For the purposes of this chapter, the following terms shall have the meaning expressed herein:

(a) Owner or operator.— Means any natural or juridical person who owns or manages the building.

(b) Compartmentalization.— Means the segmentation of a building’s floors where the floor, walls and ceiling of the sectioned area minimize the spreading of a fire. This compartmentalization must be used in Type I building constructions protected against fires as defined in the Puerto Rico Planning Board’s Building Regulations, approved by virtue of §§ 43—50 of Title 23.

(c) Common use areas.— Means those areas such as passageways, corridors, and inside hallways used for free movement, and all closed meeting or assembly areas in residential buildings.
