§ 944. Requirements for license—Journeyman plumber

In order to apply for a license as a journeyman plumber, every applicant must have an apprentice plumber license and must have completed a training course prescribed, or to be prescribed in the future, by the Apprenticeship Council of Puerto Rico created by virtue of the provisions of §§ 11 et seq. of Title 29. Students of legally recognized plumbing schools in Puerto Rico may be admitted to examination if they hold a certificate issued by said vocational schools. Provided, That until December 1, 1981, any person who, by a certificate sworn to and subscribed by an authorized master plumber, proves to the satisfaction of the Board of Examiners of Master and Journeyman Plumbers that he/she has worked in the plumbing trade for a period of five (5) years or more under the direction of a master plumber, shall be entitled to be issued a license as journeyman plumber by the Board after proving his knowledge in the trade, without a practical or written examination and without having to meet the requirement of academic training, upon payment of the corresponding fees.

Any person who wishes to obtain a license to practice as Apprentice Plumber from the Board of Examiners of Master and Journeyman Plumbers must meet the following requirements:

(a) Be at least sixteen (16) years old.

(b) Prove to the Board that he/she is enrolled in a training course as prescribed with a minimum of three (3) months of studies, in a plumbing school legally authorized and accredited by the Apprenticeship Council of Puerto Rico.

(c) Fill out in his/her own handwriting, a printed application form that will be supplied by the Board in which he attests under oath before any official authorized to administer oaths in Puerto Rico, all the necessary data for his/her personal identification and domicile. The application shall be accompanied by a medical certificate that certifies that he/she is in good medical condition to practice the plumbing profession, and said application shall be sent or delivered to the offices of the Board.
