Any person not granted a license to practice as physical therapist or physiotherapist in Puerto Rico by the Board, posing as, or holding himself out to be a physical therapist, or using the words Physical Therapist, Physiotherapist, Physiotherapy Technician, Physical Therapy-Technician, Registered Physical Therapist or the letters P.T., Ph.T., P.T.T., or R.P.T. or any other letters, words, abbreviations or insignia, indicating or implying that he is a physical therapist, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and shall be punished pursuant to the provisions of § 255 of this title. However, nothing contained in this chapter shall prevent Y.M.C.A. clubs, athletic clubs or similar organizations from administering some kind of massage and other treatments to their players or members. Nor does this chapter prevent [masseurs] from practicing their profession, provided they do not designate themselves as physical therapists, physiotherapists, etc., or use any other of the words, terms or phrases mentioned in this section or engage in the dissembled practice of physical therapy.
