§ 1202. Public policy

It is hereby declared that it is the public policy of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico to insure the most effective protection and conservation of Puerto Rico’s natural resources, which are the patrimony and wealth of our people. In recognition of the continuous increase of social and economic pressures that jeopardize these resources, the Government has seen the need to create a civil guard corps under the direction of the Secretary of the Department of Natural and Environmental Resources, in an earnest effort to protect these resources for the enjoyment of future generations. This organization shall use all available means to protect, supervise, conserve, defend and safeguard our natural resources. It shall also be authorized to give any kind of orientation, guidance and assistance to the citizens under the provisions of the various laws administered by the Department of Natural and Environmental Resources.
