§ 216e. Expropriation or purchase—Authorization

(a) The Department of Natural and Environmental Resources is hereby ordered to obtain control of the lands referenced in this chapter by means of eminent domain, voluntary acquisition, gratuitously or for value, transfer, constitution of conservation easements, leasing or any other means of legal acquisition of the domain or property rights of private properties located within the zone designated as Ecological Corridor.

(b) The patrimony or public domain lands located within the area designated as the Ecological Corridor that are currently owned by the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and under the administration of other agencies are hereby transferred to the administration of the Department, with the exception of the lands owned by the Land Administration, which shall be governed pursuant to the provisions in the appropriations note under § 216 of this title; and those owned by the University of Puerto Rico shall be governed pursuant to the provisions in § 216 of this title.

Regarding the latter, the Department shall hereby implement the public policy set forth in this chapter in coordination with the University of Puerto Rico, as set forth in § 682 of Title 18.
