The Office may be designated by the Governor as the Commonwealth administrating and receiving agency of any funds or contributions granted by federal laws for elderly programs.
The Office is hereby designated as the administrating agency in charge of enforcing locally federal programs for the elderly established by virtue of Public Act No. 89-73 of July 14, 1965, as amended, known as the “Older Americans Act of 1965”.
When the Office is designated pursuant to the established in this chapter, it shall be thereby authorized to engage in the necessary efforts and to execute, in representation of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, agreements and contracts with the pertinent federal agencies with the purpose of obtaining available federal benefits and funding. The Office shall make a previous request to the Office of Management and Budget of the funds that may be requested from the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico for the matching of federal funds.
