§ 816a. Federal social security for Puerto Rico—Referenda among employees covered by retirement systems

The Governor may authorize the holding of referenda among the employees of the various commonwealth retirement systems on whether or not the services rendered in the positions covered by such retirement systems are to be excluded from or included in the agreement provided by §§ 813-819 of this title. The Governor shall designate an agency or individual for supervising the holding of these referenda pursuant to the provisions of § 218(d)(3) of the Federal Social Security Act. The referendum notice which § 218(d)(3)(c) of the Federal Social Security Act requires to be served on the employees shall bear or be accompanied by such information as the agency or individual designated to supervise the holding of the referenda may deem necessary and sufficient for enlightening the employees as to the rights which they as well as their dependents and survivors shall acquire, and as to the obligations which the said employees shall incur if their services are included in the agreement authorized by §§ 813-819 of this title.
