§ 583. Travel as part of Olympic Committee

(a) It is hereby prohibited that any official of the Government of Puerto Rico, its corporations and instrumentalities, mayors, municipal officials and legislators, judges and officials of the Judicial Branch, and the members of the Legislative Assembly of Puerto Rico travel as part of an Olympic delegation with expenses paid by the Puerto Rico Olympic Committee or any other entity that receives public funds.

(b) This section shall not apply to public officials or employees who receive financial aid to practice a sport discipline at competition level and that are bona fide members of a sports federation attached to the Puerto Rico Olympic Committee. This section shall not prevent the public officials mentioned in subsection (a) from participating in the activities of the Olympic Committee; provided, that their participation is defrayed with private funds.

(c) The prohibition contained in this section is hereby extended to four (4) years after the official or state or municipal legislator has ceased to be in office.

(d) Any natural or juridical person that fails to comply with the provisions of this section shall be guilty of a fourth-degree felony.
