§ 2881. Disposition of indivisible thing

If a thing should be indivisible or should become considerably impaired by being divided, it may be awarded to one of the heirs under condition of paying to the others the difference in cash.

But it shall be sufficient if a single one of the heirs requests its sale at public auction, outside bidders being admitted in order that it may take place.
