§ 2111. V-Chip label

As of January 1, 2003, every importer and distributor of television sets manufactured after January 1, 2000, shall attach to each television set imported or distributed, or on its box, a removable label in Spanish and English indicating whether the unit contains a V-Chip and its use. Commercial establishments that sell televisions sets at retail must likewise display a sign indicating whether the television set contains a V-Chip when the label of the importer and distributor appears on the box containing the television set and the latter is taken out of said box to be displayed or shown for sale.

When the television set has been manufactured before January 1, 2000, the label must indicate whether or not a V-Chip can be installed.

The label required by this section shall include the information or wording determined by the Secretary of the Department of Consumer Affairs through regulations in clearly legible letters and attached to a visible place on the television set, its box or packaging. When the label is attached to the box or packaging of the television set and the same is removed from it for display, the label required in this section shall be placed next to the television set so that the consumer may easily identify the unit to which it corresponds.
