§ 1778. Refusal to accept packages

Carriers may refuse to accept packages which appear unfit for transportation; but should the shipper in writing and under his signature, insist on the shipment, the carrier shall carry the goods, free from responsibility on account of such defect, provided reference is made in the bill of lading to the condition of the packages and the reasons for their rejection.
