§ 121. Discrediting banks; penalties

Any person or publication that knowingly and maliciously makes, circulates or transmits to another or to others, any statements, rumor or indication, whether written, printed or by word of mouth, which directly or by inference leads to the discredit of the financial condition, or affects the solvency or credit of any bank, foreign bank, or branch of a bank or foreign bank doing business in Puerto Rico, or that advises, aids, procures or induces another to originate, transmit or circulate any such statement or rumor, shall be guilty of a felony, and upon conviction thereof, shall be punished by a fine of not less than one thousand dollars ($1,000), or a term of imprisonment of not more than five (5) years, or both penalties.
