§ 5267. Lupus Awareness Day

(a) May 10 of each year is hereby designated as “Lupus Awareness Day” for purposes of raising awareness and understanding of this chronic disease that affects thousands of Puerto Ricans.

(b) The Department of Health of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, through the Chronic Disease Prevention and Control Division of the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health Promotion created by Administrative Order No. 179 of January 15, 2003, shall be entrusted with coordinating and holding the activities to raise people’s awareness of lupus.

(c) The Department of Health and the municipalities shall provide their support, either through granting permits or financial resources (within the available budget), to nonprofit organizations devoted to helping lupus patients or their families so they may carry out educational activities that raise people’s awareness of this disease.
