§ 5225. Governors of Puerto Rico Day

(a) The third Monday of February of each year is hereby declared as an official and legal holiday in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and that day shall be known as the “Governors of Puerto Rico Day” in remembrance of Jesús T. Piñero, Luis Muñoz-Marín, Roberto Sánchez-Vilella and Luis A. Ferré-Aguayo.

(b) The Governor of Puerto Rico, through a proclamation to that effect, shall urge the people to render on that day, a tribute in honor and remembrance of Jesús T. Piñero, Luis Muñoz-Marín, Roberto Sánchez-Vilella and Luis A. Ferré-Aguayo.

(c) The Department of Education and the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture shall adopt the measures needed to achieve the purposes of this Section by organizing and celebrating acts in tribute to the memory of such illustrious Puerto Ricans. They shall likewise promote the involvement and participation of private entities in activities that shall contribute to promulgate widespread knowledge about the lives and accomplishments of Jesús T. Piñero, Luis Muñoz-Marín, Roberto Sánchez-Vilella and Luis A. Ferré-Aguayo.
