§ 5147. Elderly Abuse Prevention Week

(a) The week of May 16 of every year is hereby declared as the “Elderly Abuse Prevention Week”.

(b) With no less than ten (10) days before the start of this week, each year, the Governor of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico shall issue an annual proclamation exhorting the people of Puerto Rico to join the celebration provided in this section.

(c) The Department of the Family, the Office for the Affairs of the Elderly, the Department of Education, the Gerontology Program on the Medical Sciences Campus of the University of Puerto Rico, as well as other organisms and public entities, and the municipalities of Puerto Rico, shall adopt all necessary measures to carry out the purposes of this section by organizing and conducting activities to celebrate the “Elderly Abuse Prevention Week”.

(d) A copy of the annual proclamation shall be distributed to the mass communications media of the Commonwealth for its diffusion and/or publication.
