§ 576. Commemorative Medallions of the Fifth Centennial

(a) The Senate of Puerto Rico is hereby authorized to donate the Commemorative Medallions of the celebration of the Fifth Centennial of the Discovery of America and Puerto Rico and any other property that is in its custody.

(b) The following museums, libraries, cultural centers and institutions are hereby designated as the “Depositories of the Commemorative Medallion of the celebration of the Fifth Centennial of the Discovery of America and Puerto Rico”:

The Puerto Rican Indian Museum; Cagüana Indian Ceremonial Center; our African Heritage Museum; Art and History Museum; Caparra Ruins Historical Museum & Park; University of Puerto Rico Museum of History, Anthropology & Art; Ponce Art Museum; Puerto Rican Collection, Madre María Teresa Guevara Library (Sacred Heart University); Puerto Rican Collection, José M. Lázaro Library (University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus); Angel Quintero Alfaro Library, School of General Studies (University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus); Gerardo Sellés Solá Library, College of Education (University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus); Biblioteca Regional del Caribe y Estudios Latinoamericanos (University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus); Puerto Rican Collection, Sala Isabel Gutiérrez de Arroyo (University of Puerto Rico, Bayamón Campus); Puerto Rican Collection, Victor M. Pons Gil Library (University of Puerto Rico, Cayey Campus); Puerto Rican Collection, General Library (University of Puerto Rico, Humacao Campus); Puerto Rican Collection, General Library (University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Campus); Puerto Rican Collection, Encarnación Valdés Library (Pontificia Universidad Católica de Puerto Rico, Ponce); Puerto Rican Collection, Biblioteca Centro de Acceso a la Información) (Interamerican University of Puerto Rico, Metropolitan Campus); Puerto Rican Collection, (Centro de Acceso a la Información) (Interamerican University of Puerto Rico, Ponce); Puerto Rican Collection, (Centro de Acceso a la Información) General Library, (Interamerican University of Puerto Rico, San Germán); General Library, Metropolitan University (Ana G. Méndez Foundation); Francisco Alvárez Library of the Municipality of Manatí; Galería Histórica del Capitolio and the Library of Office of Legislative Services. The remaining Medallions shall be given to the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture.

Each institution designated as depository in this subsection, shall be the depository of one single Medallion, except the Galería Histórica del Capitolio and the Library of the Office of Legislative Services, which shall be Depositaries of two Medallions.

Each institution shall be charged with preserving and safeguarding the donated Medallions and shall keep them permanently displayed and available to the general public for their enjoyment.

(c) The “Depositaries of the Commemorative Medallion of the celebration of the Fifth Centennial of the Discovery of America and Puerto Rico” may lend the medallions for exhibitions in museums, educational centers or cultural centers, which are deserving of said loan, in the judgment of the Depositaries. The Depositaries shall adopt regulations to establish the pertinent procedure.

(d) The Depositaries shall not cede, sell or alienate, donate, or otherwise dispose of the medallions except as provided in subsection (c) of this section. Any transaction or juridical action in violation of this condition shall be null and thus, shall not confer any kind of legal right.

(e) The Depositaries shall prepare a certification each year of the condition and the place in which the Commemorative Medallions for the celebration of the Fifth Centennial of the Discovery of America and Puerto Rico are found, a copy of this certification shall be delivered to the Legislature.
