§ 536b. Identification cards

The Department of Health shall establish a procedure to issue identification cards to disabled persons who request them, for a maximum term of five (5) years by the same method and manner in which they are issued to senior citizens as provided in §§ 531 et seq. of this title. Said cards shall also serve as an authorization to enjoy the discount granted by § 536a of this title. Besides granting said discount, this card shall certify the condition of its beneficiary or bearer as a disabled person for all legal purposes, as well as for conducting all types of transactions with public and private entities. The card shall also specify the type of disability and the manner in which said disability limits its bearer or beneficiary and whether said disability is deemed permanent or not. The card shall be issued at the request of any disabled person or his/her father, mother, tutor, guardian, manager or legal representative. The Department shall establish, through regulations, the fundamental as well as the procedural requirements to certify the applicants and issue the card, including those relative to the fees to be charged for the reasonable cost of printing and issuing the same.
