§ 5406. Rear lights

The following rules shall apply with regard to the rear lights:

(a) Every motor vehicle shall be equipped on its left rear side with a red taillight visible from a distance of five hundred (500) feet, except for every motor vehicle manufactured after the year 1960 which shall be bound to display two (2) red taillights located at each side of the vehicle and mounted as far apart as possible. Motor vehicles manufactured after 1985 shall have a third red light in the central rear part of the vehicle.

(b) Every motor vehicle shall also display the rear license plate lit by a colorless light so as to render the license number legible from a distance [of at least fifty (50) feet].

(c) The use of accessories that may hinder the clear visibility of the license plate is hereby prohibited.
