§ 5061. Practical examination requirement

Every aspirant for a driver’s license who meets the requirements established in § 5056 of this title may request the Secretary to provide a practical examination to be issued a driving license. If said aspirant already holds a driving license issued under the provisions of this chapter, he/she may request the Secretary to submit to an examination [in order] to be issued of any of the other licenses authorized in this chapter, which have stricter examination requirements. An applicant who holds a driving license issued by the Armed Forces of the United States, shall be bound to take the written and practical examination established in this chapter in order to drive a vehicle in Puerto Rico, but shall not need to obtain a learner’s license.

The application for the examination shall be completed on the appropriate form and shall include the photographs and documents prescribed by the Secretary through regulations. Upon filing of the application, the Secretary shall set the date and time in which said test shall be held and shall notify the applicant to such effects.

During the examination every aspirant shall demonstrate that he/she is capable of safely operating the motor vehicle for which the driving license is requested, and meets all the provisions of this chapter and the regulations promulgated by the Secretary.
