§ 3524. Obligations—Insurance companies

Without prejudice or impairment of the provisions and obligations contained in other laws, all [insurance] companies authorized to conduct business in Puerto Rico shall have the following obligations:

(1) To conduct a physical inspection of all heavy construction or agricultural equipment units they intend to insure. To this effect, insurers shall maintain in their records written proof of said inspection, which shall certify that the information contained in the policy has been directly checked from the unit to be insured.

(2) To notify the Puerto Rico Police immediately of any unit reported as missing, stolen or illegally appropriated and of all claims made on account of the unit being missing, stolen or illegally appropriated.

(3) To hand over to the Puerto Rico Police the certificates pertaining to insured units in connection with which a claim has been lodged for illegal appropriation and whose possession or ownership has been transferred to the insurer.

(4) To register to their name into the Heavy Construction or Agricultural Equipment Unit Register of the Department of Transportation and Public Works all units or salvaged units that become their property for any reason, in order for this datum to be incorporated into the Register.
