§ 2013. Notarial practice—Temporary substitutions

The notary may appoint another notary to substitute for him/her when he/she is absent from his/her office for any nonpermanent cause, for a maximum initial period of three (3) months. Said period may be extended after having so requested to the Director of the Notarial Inspection Office in exceptional cases and when there is a just cause, up to a maximum term of six (6) months.

The notary as well as his/her substitute shall notify the Notarial Inspection Office of the appointment, as provided for through regulations.

The substitute notary shall not authorize original documents in the name of the substituted notary. The substitute notary shall be responsible for the custody and conservation of the protocols of the notary he/she is substituting for and, as such may issue certified copies.
