§ 4393. Denomination

The name of every cooperative must include the word “cooperative” or “coop” and the word or abbreviation that identifies its main activity. The use of the word “cooperative” or of a word or symbol that could give the impression that it is a cooperative, by any person or entity which is not organized pursuant to the provisions of this chapter is hereby prohibited. This prohibition does not apply to savings and credit unions organized under §§ 1361—1371b of Title 7, known as the “Cooperative Savings and Credit Unions Act”.
