§ 1002. Definitions

For the purposes of this chapter, the words, phrases and acronyms stated hereinbelow shall have the meaning indicated hereinafter, unless another meaning clearly arises from the context:

(a) Puerto Rico Olympic Committee. — A nonprofit sports body, registered as such under the laws of Puerto Rico, Register No. 4261 of the Department of State of Puerto Rico, recognized by the International Olympic Committee as the sole authority to integrate, register and represent the sports delegations of Puerto Rico in international events under its auspices and in international sports federations.

(b) Affiliated federation. — A nonprofit sports body that promotes, regulates and organizes a specific sport and its allied disciplines in Puerto Rico and that is recognized as such by the corresponding international sports federation and is affiliated [with] the Puerto Rico Olympic Committee.

(c) Insignia. — Any expression, word, phrase, acronym, flag, symbol, Olympic fire or flame, motto and emblem allusive to Olympic events.

(d) Olympic body. — Puerto Rico Olympic Committee; Olympic entity.

(e) Olympic activity. — Contests, games, tournaments and competitions such as the Olympic Games, Pan American Games, Central America and the Caribbean Games, federated regional games and world tournaments of any specific Olympic sport.

(f) Person. — Any natural or juridical person, group of persons or association that carry out activities or functions within the provisions of this chapter.

(g) Commercial firm. — Any firm, company, business, corporation, factory or association that offers for sale, sells, distributes or manufactures articles or products with the insignias protected by this chapter, or that advertises commercially or for promotional purposes in radio and television broadcasts or through magazines, newspapers, fliers or through any other information media, alluding to the Olympic activity.

(h) Permit. — Sanction or authorization of the Puerto Rico Olympic Committee.

(i) PROC. — Puerto Rico Olympic Committee.

(j) IOC. — International Olympic Committee.

(k) PUROC. — Puerto Rico Olympic Committee.

(l) PUR. — Puerto Rico.

(m) Olympic. — Any name, activity, object, insignia or expression related to the Olympic movement.

(n) Olympiad. — The Summer or Winter Olympic Games held every four (4) years.

(o) Altius-Citius-Fortius. — Phrase alluding the Olympic Games and that is translated into Spanish as “ Más Alto, Más Rápido, Más Fuerte ”, and into English as “The Highest, Fastest, Strongest”.
