§ 525e. Non-credited services; application

Those employees with twenty (20) or more years accredited to the Retirement System and who in order to qualify for this program need accreditation for services credited in the Government Employees Retirement System, must submit their application to the Coordinator for Retirement Matters of the Puerto Rico National Parks Company not later than thirty (30) days [following] the effective date of this act and before the date of separation from service.

The Coordinator for Retirement Matters of the Puerto Rico National Parks Company shall certify to the Retirement System that the application for services not credited was submitted while the employee was still in active service.

The Administrator of the Retirement System shall accept payment for the unpaid services from the employee even when the latter is not in active service, with the exception of § 765a of Title 3, provided he/she receives the certification from the coordinator.

It is further provided that in order to compute the months lacking to the employees who need accreditation for the years of services not credited, pursuant to this section, as well as the employees who need to complete the required twenty-four and a half (241/2) years of credited services, as provided in §§ 525 and 525a of this title, said employees may be able to use their vacation and sick leave, so that, to such effects, every twenty (20) days accrued shall equal one (1) month of work.
