§ 1007. Definitions

The following terms used in this chapter shall have the meanings specified below:

(a) Activities. — Official acts or ceremonies for the commemoration of holidays recognized by law, events, or the celebration of facts or events of public interest.

(b) Counselors. — Person or persons that shall give support to the school youth cooperatives.

(c) School youth cooperative. — Youth organization whose members are under twenty-two (22) years of age created pursuant to §§ 1701 et seq. of this title, known as the “Special Act of Youth Cooperatives”, that operates within a public school building.

(d) Department. — The Department of Education of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, including all its programs, offices, dependencies, divisions, and administrative and teaching units.

(e) Stipend. — The bonus, in cash or in kind, to be received by each participating student or organization constituted as a school youth cooperative for its artistic presentation, which shall not be considered as income, salary or wage, but rather as monetary aid in cash or in kind destined to the student or organization constituted as a school youth cooperative to defray personal or operating expenses, or needs such as transportation, food or lodging.

(f) Student. — The young person participating in the activities and enrolled in a Free School of Music of Puerto Rico.

(g) Secretary. — The Secretary of Education, who carries out his/her executive, administrative, operating, supervising, and planning functions by virtue of Sec. 5 of Art. II and Sec. 6 of Art. IV of the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, as well as those of §§ 143a et seq. of Title 3, known as the “Organic Act of the Department of Education of Puerto Rico”.

(h) Educational services. — Benefits offered to the student such as medical, health, transportation and school lunchrooms services.
