§ 287. Increases for special services; classification systems

The following additional increases shall be paid for special services:

Principals. — Taking into account the number of teachers under the direction of a principal, the number of other employees under his/her supervision such as lunchroom employees, janitors, guards and others, the number of pupils enrolled in the center or in the schools under his/her direction and the complexity of the school organization in their charge, the Secretary of Education shall establish a classification system to include principals within the five (5) classes for which the following additional compensation is indicated:

First Class $ 125 Second Class $ 150 Third Class $ 175 Fourth Class $ 225 Fifth Class $ 275

Assistant Superintendents. — Taking into account the same factors considered to establish the various classes of school superintendents, the Secretary of Education shall establish a classification to include assistant superintendents within the five (5) classes for which the following additional compensation is established:

First Class $ 125 Second Class $ 150 Third Class $ 175 Fourth Class $ 225 Fifth Class $ 275

Superintendent. — Taking into account the territorial extension of the school district in charge of the school superintendent, the total number of teachers in the school district, district’s school enrollment, administrative and supervisory personnel under the superintendents, the total number of other employees under his charge such as lunchroom employees, and child breakfast centers, janitors, guards and others, the Secretary of Education shall establish a classification to include superintendents within the five (5) classes for which the following additional compensation is established.

First Class $ 225 Second Class $ 250 Third Class $ 275 Fourth Class $ 325 Fifth Class $ 375

Curriculum Technician and Zone Supervisors. — Taking into account the subject matters with which they shall deal, their work in the preparation of service plans, supervisory work to be carried out, work in the preparation of the curriculum, the freedom in their work with relation to the other supervisors or the other curriculum technicians, administrative personnel and technicians in his charge and the grades included in their field of action, the Secretary of Education shall establish a classification to include all curriculum technicians and zone supervisors, as well as additional personnel needed to carry out the corresponding work, into five (5) classes of curriculum technicians or zone supervisors for which the following additional compensation is indicated:

First Class $ 75 Second Class $ 100 Third Class $ 125 Fourth Class $ 150 Fifth Class $ 175

General Supervisors. — Taking into account the subject matters which have to be supervised, the administrative and technical personnel under their direction and the school level at which their activities are developed, the Secretary of Education shall establish a classification system to include general supervisors within the five (5) classes for which the following additional compensation is indicated:

First Class $ 175

Second Class $ 200

Third Class $ 225

Fourth Class $ 275

Fifth Class $ 325

The Secretary of Education shall readjust the classes in accordance with their determining factors as established herein, and at the same time shall promulgate, by regulations, the method to be followed to include the various school system officials referred to in this section by categories. Once the readjustment has been made, no teacher shall receive a salary lower than that he/she was receiving before this act was approved.
