Section 4-6-2-12 - Authority of the attorney general to investigate human trafficking(a) The attorney general has the same authority as a law enforcement agency (as defined in IC 35-47-15-2) to: (1) access (as defined in IC 35-43-2-3); and(2) maintain; information regarding a violation of IC 35-42-3.5-1 through IC 35-42-3.5-1.4 (human trafficking).
(b) The attorney general may assist with the investigation and prosecution of an alleged violation of IC 35-42-3.5-1 through IC 35-42-3.5-1.4 (human trafficking). However, the attorney general does not have the power to arrest or criminally prosecute individuals for a violation of IC 35-42-3.5-1 through IC 35-42-3.5-1.4.Amended by P.L. 144-2018,SEC. 2, eff. 7/1/2018.Added by P.L. 162-2014, SEC. 1, eff. 7/1/2014.
