Section 20-408 - DUTIES OF BOARDThe board of correction shall:
(1) Recommend productive enterprises in such volume and of such kinds as to eliminate unnecessary idleness among the inmates and to provide diversified work activities that will serve as a means of vocational education and rehabilitation, as well as financial support;(2) Determine the advisability and suitability of establishing, expanding, diminishing, or discontinuing any enterprise;(3) Hold hearings and make rules for conducting such hearings. The board may, in its discretion, hold public hearings on any subject within its jurisdiction;(4) Conduct programs of research, education and publicity for correctional industries products;(5) Secure new markets for correctional industries products;(6) Enter into such contracts and agreements as may be necessary or advisable pursuant to the provisions of this chapter;(7) Appoint and employ all necessary officers, agents and other personnel, including any experts in any correctional industries enterprise pursuit, prescribe their duties and fix their compensation;(8) Cooperate with any local, state or national organization or agency and to enter into contracts and agreements with such agencies for carrying on and promoting the purposes of this chapter;(9) Adopt, rescind, modify and amend all necessary and proper orders, rules and regulations for the exercise of its powers and the performance of its duties as described in this section; and(10) Keep or cause to be kept in accordance with accepted standards of good accounting practice, accurate records of all collections, receipts, deposits, withdrawals, disbursements, paid-outs, moneys, and other financial transactions made and done pursuant to this chapter.
