Section 74:23 - Independent industrial shoemaking school of the city of Lynn

The independent industrial shoemaking school of the city of Lynn, established under chapter one hundred and seventy-four of the Special Acts of nineteen hundred and sixteen, shall be maintained by the city of Lynn as a state aided approved vocational school under and subject to sections one to twenty-two, inclusive; provided, that the trustees of said school shall consist of the mayor of Lynn, ex officio, and eight appointive members who shall be residents of Lynn and of whom two shall represent the laboring class. Two appointive members shall annually be appointed by the governor, with the advice and consent of the council, for terms of four years and until their successors are qualified. The trustees shall serve without compensation, but shall be reimbursed for their necessary expenses, to be charged and paid as maintenance.

The trustees may determine the situation of said school, subject to the approval of the commissioner, and may expend annually for rent of suitable floor space for the school a sum not exceeding six thousand dollars until such time as it is deemed expedient to purchase, construct or alter a building for the use of the school. After the said school is established and equipped the city of Lynn shall annually raise by taxation such sums as may be needed for its maintenance and operation.
