Section 60:25 - [Effective 11/1/2024] Detention of goods distrained; notice; sale

The collector may keep the goods distrained, at the expense of the owner and, if they are not redeemed by payment by the owner or his agent of the tax due, shall within thirty days after the seizure, sell them by public auction for a payment of the tax and charges of keeping and sale, first posting notice of the sale in some public place in the town at least forty-eight hours prior thereto. The notice posted shall be prepared by the department of revenue, in language understandable by a least sophisticated consumer, together with a notice in the 7 most commonly spoken languages in the commonwealth that this notice affects important legal rights and should be translated immediately.
